Psychopharmacology is an ever changing field with new drugs and pharmaceutical agents requiring frequent education. Consequently, this is a topic we include in the Psychiatric Symposium every few years.
COVID has impacted most everything we do in the medical field, including mental health care. Information on the impact on both patients and healthcare workers is needed as we continue to deal with the pandemic.

1. Describe how diagnosis of schizophrenia shifted in the 1960's.
2. Consider how those shifts impact present day schizophrenia treatment and practice.
3. Identify ways that diagnostic bias and racism can be structural as well as individual.
4. Discuss ways to apply lessons of Protest Psychosis to your own practice.
5. Explain concept of Structural Competency.
6. Consider ways to implement and measure Structural Competency.
7. Apply Structural Competency to mental health Practice.
8. Discuss differences between Cultural Competency and Structural Competency.
9. Discuss impact of COVID-19 pandemic on mental health of healthcare professionals and general public.
10. Differentiate exacerbation of already existing mental illness versus new onset pandemic related symptoms.
11. Highlight potential approaches to maintain wellbeing in face of continuing pandemic stressors.
12. Introduce concepts of wellbeing and burnout.
13. Discuss burnout from a personal view versus an organizational perspective.
14. Ourtiline potential interventions to improve wellbeing and mitigate burnout.
15. Recognize new non-copamine mechanisms for antipsychotic therapy.
16. List several new antipsychotic formulations.
17. Review numerous studies showing neurotoxicity of first generation antipsychotics and neuroprotective effects of second generation antipsychotics.
18. Discuss metanalysis of side effects of second generation antipsychotics.
19. Discuss multiple genetic and environmental etiologies of schizophrenia.
20. Review mechanisms of brain tissue destruction during psychotic episodes.
