In the United States, over 6.5 million patients are affected by acute and chronic wounds—a number that continues to rise due to an aging population and increasing rates of diabetes and obesity. This symposium brings together leading experts and practitioners to address the evolving challenges and innovations in wound care and hyperbaric medicine.

This comprehensive overview of advanced wound care and limb preservation strategies highlights the critical interplay between clinical fundamentals, emerging therapies, and interdisciplinary approaches. Foundational knowledge in Wound Care and Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Therapy sets the stage for understanding pharmacological and therapeutic barriers to healing, as well as the relative and absolute contraindications for HBO, particularly in acute care settings. The importance of offloading techniques and the nuanced management of complex conditions such as Charcot foot and osteomyelitis—whether through conservative or surgical pathways—is emphasized. Vascular considerations, including angiosome-guided arterial mapping and endovascular options for chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI), are essential for optimizing perfusion and healing outcomes.
