2024 After the Diagnosis: Methods to Stop the Cycle for Patients with Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Disease

Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation include establishing an individualized plan to recondition the heart and lungs. Rehabilitation, physical and or occupational therapy can help regain strength, prevent conditions from worsening, reduce risk of future heart or lung problems and improve functional capacity, health and quality of life. This year’s conference will provide information on managing diabetes patients without a diabetes educator, long-term effects of vaping, racial disparities, and balance and vestibular assessment and treatment.

1. Define secretagogue diabetes medications and non-secretagogue diabetes medications.
2. Describe the range of blood sugars considered safe to initiate exercise.
3. Define what e-cigarettes are.
4. Summarize regulation of e-cigarettes.
5. Identify symptoms and signs of e-cigarette related acute lung injury.
6. Discuss e-cigarettes and the role of nicotine cessation.
7. Define health equity.
8. Describe various cardiovascular health disparities and contributing factors.
9. Explain actionable steps to address disparities and improve outcomes.
10. Describe the three primary body systems that assimilate to create balance.
11. Analyze a series of conditions or diagnoses and how each may play a role in affecting balance and extrapolate that knowledge to other disease states.
12. Administer simple assessments to aid in determining fall risk or balance deficits in geriatric persons and then analyze the results of the assessments to determine best treatment approach.
13. Synthesize information on how various diagnoses and balance assessment outcomes may affect a patient’s balance, and then choose a variety of treatment approaches to address static and dynamic balance deficits in a clinical setting.
14. Review when to administer the positional provocation tests (Dix-Hallpike) for BPPV by recognition of subjective symptoms of possible BPPV and recognize resulting nystagmus if present.
15. Identify the use of Modified Epley’s Canalith Repositioning.
16. Cite a response to a positive provocation test (Dix-Hallpike).

The ProMedica Health System is accredited by the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA) to provide continuing medical education for physicians. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Refunds will not be given for failure to attend. Substitutions may be made at any time (in writing or by phone) without an additional charge. If this meeting is cancelled for any reason, including labor strikes or acts of nature, liability is limited to a full refund of registration fees.
