23rd Infectious Diseases update

The ever-changing field of Infectious Diseases is pertinent to all physicians and in constant need for reviews and updates. It is one of the most demanding areas of medicine in terms of disease epidemiology and therapeutic regimens. 

1. Review advantages and disadvantages of procalcitonin as a biomarker.
2. Summarize literature supporting use of procalcitonin to guide duration of antibiotic therapy.
3. Discuss literature that does not support use of a procalcitonin guided approach to therapy duration.
4. Describe need for telemedicine services to meet needs of patients hospitalized in rural hospitals.
5. Characterize demonstrated successes with other telemedicine services nationwide.
6. Reflect on our personal experiences in ID telemedicine and describe how availability has improved patient outcomes.
7. Describe acceptance rates for SARS-CoV-2 vaccines among healthcare workers. including existing gaps.
8. Explain use of language that is non-polarizing in discussing vaccination.
9. Examine impact of penicillin allergy labels on patient care.
10. Discuss beta lactam cross-reactivity and protocols of using cephalosporins in patients with penicillin allergy.
11. Create optimal approach to patients with documented penicillin allergies, including optimal antimicrobial selection and challenge testing.
12. Review goals and objectives of EHE (End of the HIV Epidemic) initiative by year 2030.
13. Identify tools required for EHE, PEP, PrEP, U=U to meet HIV ratification by 2030.
14. Describe opportunities to improve transition from inpatient to outpatient care for patients with infections.
15. Introduce local initiatives to improve administration of outpatient parenteral antibiotics.
16. Discus opportunities to improve care of patients with infections in post-acute settings.
17. Review new guidelines for treatment of C difficile.
18. Explore approaches to reduce C difficile recurrence through antimicrobial stewardship.
19. Educate audience on acute care at home programs.
20. Summarize data acquired from COVID-19 patients cared for in their homes.
